How to Get a Logan Labs Soil Test

1. Print the Logan Labs test form and protocols. A “Complete Test” is required if you’d like recommendations from the Soil Doctor Tool.

2.     Take at least 10-20 random samples of your soil mix. The more the better. Use a clean trowel or shovel. Make sure to exclude any organic residues on the top of the soil—scrape those away before sampling. In pots and raised beds, try to sample the entire soil profile as deeply as possible.

3.     Mix the random samples very thoroughly in a clean bucket or on a clean tarp.

4.     From the bucket, fill a Ziploc bag with 2 cups of soil. Label the Ziploc bag with a permanent marker with your name and Sample ID. (The Sample ID can be anything you want to help you identify the sample.)

5.     Close each bag tightly and pack into a box. FedEx is the fastest carrier if you’re in a hurry to get results. However, the least expensive shipping option is to use a USPS flat rate padded envelope, although it can take longer for results to arrive, especially during the holiday season.

6.     Include the submission worksheet with your name and address. Also include the Sample ID on the worksheet, as well as your $60 payment (if you want to pay by credit card, feel free to call the lab directly at 937-842-6100). Make sure the Sample ID on the bag and worksheet match.

7.     It is highly recommended to provide 4 oz. of irrigation water per soil sample in a plastic water bottle for the lab to use to improve the accuracy of the saturated paste test.

8.     Mail the submission worksheet and soil sample to:

Logan Labs

620 North Main Street

Lakeview, OH, 43331

9.     Results take about 4-5 days once the sample arrives at the lab.

10. Once you receive the results, enter them into the SOIL DOCTOR TOOL.
